How to Measure Roman Shade?

Accurate measurements are essential to ensure the perfect fit, smooth installation, and optimal light control for your Roman shades. Please follow the instructions below according to your preferred mounting style: Inside Mount or Outside Mount.

1. Inside Mount

Overview: The shade is mounted inside the window frame for a clean, built-in look.

How to Measure:

Width (Order Width)

    • Measure the inside width of the window frame at the top, middle, and bottom.
    • Record the narrowest measurement as your final order width.
    • The factory will automatically deduct a total of 3/8 inch for proper clearance. No deductions are needed on your part.

Height (Order Height)

    • Measure the inside height of the window frame at the left, center, and right.
    • Record the tallest measurement as your final order height.

Important:

  • The window frame depth must be at least 2 inches to fully accommodate the headrail.

Pro Tip:

  • Width → Use the narrowest measurement to prevent the shade from binding.
  • Height → Use the tallest measurement to ensure full coverage and avoid light gaps.

2. Outside Mount

Overview: The shade is mounted on the wall or molding, covering the entire window frame. This provides better light control and creates the appearance of a taller window.

How to Measure:

Width (Order Width)

    • Measure the exact width of the area you want to cover, starting from the outer edge of the window frame.
    • Add 2–3 inches to each side (a total of 4–6 inches) to minimize light gaps.
    • The final width will be your Outside Headrail Width.

Height (Order Height)

    • Measure from the top of the installation area to the bottom of the area you want to cover.
    • Add 4–6 inches above the window frame to allow room for the headrail and improve light control.

Pro Tip:

  • Adding 4–6 inches to the width improves side coverage and blocks more light.
  • Adding 4–6 inches to the height makes the window appear taller and enhances light control.

3. Window Types and Mounting Compatibility

  • Side-pushed window (window opens to the side): suitable for inside and outside mounts.
  • Outward-opening window (window opens outward): suitable for inside and outside mounts.
  • Inward-opening window (window opens inward): suitable only for outside mounts (inside mounts would block window operation).
